Scouting the Bogs: Exciting Moose Action with GardePro Cellular Trail Cams

Whether I’m out in the backcountry fishing or hunting, my eyes are always scanning the ground for moose sign. I’m constantly looking for tracks, scrapes, heavy game trails, fresh lay downs, or scat.

Just this year, my brother Matthew and I went on a canoe trip where we had to portage across multiple bogs and ponds. While crossing through one bog, we noticed a massive amount of fresh moose sign. I knew right away we had hit a hotspot, so I decided to set up my GardePro X66 Pro Cellular trail cam right there in the thick of it.

When you put out a new camera, the anticipation can drive you crazy. After setting up the first camera in that bog, I sat in disappointment for about 3 to 4 days with total silence. But then, the first cellular notification hit my phone: a video of a young bull moose.

That very next morning, a cow with last year’s calf stepped in front of the lens. From that point on, it didn’t stop. In just that first week, I had a dozen videos of moose passing through, and even a coyote—which was the first one we have ever seen in that specific area!

With results like that, I was completely hooked. I immediately went out and bought a second GardePro X66 Pro Cellular trail cam and headed back into the woods with my wife, Nancy, to set it up. We placed it on the opposite end of the bog, finishing up around 6:00 PM. We rode our quad back to the cabin, sat down, and in no time, my phone buzzed. The second camera sent a notification: a nice, mature cow was standing within 10 feet of the camera, checking out the work we had just done!

These GardePro X66 Pro Cellular trail cam work amazingly well. I purchased them in a bundle with the SP1000 Solar Panel, SIM card, and SD card. I have them mounted in a remote area with very little cell coverage, and they still connected with ease, sending pictures and videos without any interruption.

I haven’t been using trail cameras for all that long, but after seeing all the action, and the excitement of getting those notifications they have become a permenant part of my kit.
